Giving Life to a Vintage Button

This one-of-a-kind handmade sterling silver necklace transforms a vintage button into a contemporary piece of wearable jewellery, giving new life to something once forgotten.

I found this old bakelite button in my mother's sewing box and immediately fell in love with its vibrant green colour and stunning mid-century design.  I have reimagined the original button in solid silver, with a gold centre, preserving its intricate detail while elevating it into a refined, modern design. I left it's subtle imperfections and markings intact, a quiet reminder of its past life and the hands it has passed through. I wonder whose they were?

I regifted it to my delighted Mum and it has become a treasured family heirloom!  I love recreating the lost and forgotten into something new and meaningful. 

Handcrafted on Waiheke Island, New Zealand, this piece sits somewhere between past and present, a balance of nostalgia and simplicity. It’s a piece for those drawn to objects with meaning, story, and a sense of continuity.
